This book was included in the Global and Cultural Perspectives suggested books for parents to read to their elementary age children. The author is a self-proclaimed Marxist and promotes child indoctrination of Marxist beliefs. The entire list of suggested at-home reading books has recently been removed from the Mariemont Schools’ website. This book is included in the Cultural Intelligence course at the junior high. This book has been added to the Human Experience + Cultural Perspectives Course at the high school. Every staff member was gifted a personal copy of this book by the School Board for their Personal Development (hundreds of copies). JUST ASK by Sonia Sotomayor This book was included in the MEPTO newsletter of books suggested by ME school counselor for February 2022. The theme is “Acceptance”. The book normalizes street rioting, violence, theft and arson with no condemnation or alternative. Not sure how this fits the theme “Acceptance”. The story ends with what appears to be a step toward racial reconciliation between neighbors. It’s difficult to see how a 6 year-old would grasp that.
